Google some "99.9%" to shut down its service in China
Having failed to find common ground with the government on the issue of censorship, the U.S. is about to cease the activity of its Chinese search engine.
The Internet giant Google is about to put his threats. The company is now certain "99.9%" to close its search engine in China, negotiations with the authorities in Beijing on the issue of censorship are in a deadlock, the Financial Times reported Saturday.
If the information is confirmed, the consequences would be limited to Google, however, widely anticipated by the local engine, Baidu.
The Financial Times said that Google has developed detailed plans for the cessation of its Chinese search engine. The decision could occur in the very near future, according to a person familiar with the matter, but the Californian company would take time to complete the closure. Google is seeking the guarantees necessary for his local employees are not then subjected to reprisals by the Chinese authorities.
Friday, China warned the giant against any attempt to circumvent the law, showering the hopes of those who expected a resolution of the dispute between Beijing and the Mountain View company.
"If you do not respect Chinese law, you are unfriendly and irresponsible"
In January, Google revealed to have been the target of a sophisticated cyber attack which also targeted thirty other companies. He then threatened to withdraw from China if the authorities did not raise the restrictions on its search engine in Chinese.
"If you do not respect Chinese law, you are unfriendly and irresponsible, and you must bear the consequences," said Li Yizhong, Chinese Minister of Industry and Information Technology, told reporters on Friday.
This statement comes after that of Google CEO Eric Schmidt, who hoped soon to announce Wednesday a result in the negotiations on an offer uncensored search engine in China.
Helped by several other institutions, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is responsible for monitoring the Internet in China.
